Like I said before, a dog is not just a dog. Each dog breed is different, with different purposes. This factor should b considered before making your big dog selection. Take into account the kind of activity you want your dog to engage in. Heres a guide in selecting the big dog thats right for you!

1. Working Dogs- Many big dogs make excellent working dogs. They were bred in the first place to perform tasks like guarding property, pulling sleds and performing rescues. These breeds are known to be quick, strong and highly intelligent. These dogs make great working companions, but are not advised to be mad einto household pets. Their big sizes make it an utmost requirement that they be trained well! Some examples of working dogs are the Beauceron, Akita, Boxer, Doberman PInscher and the Great Swiss Mountain Dog.

2. Hunting Dogs- Hunting dogs make excellent companions in hunting. They can spot game and carry them back using their mouths. These dogs are very smart and have super heightened senses. Some examples include the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Griffon and the Polish Hunting Dog.

3. Assistance dogs- Trained to help people with disabilities, there are 3 classifications of assistance dogs. They are guide dogs (for the blind), hearing dogs (for the hearing impaired) and service dogs (mobility assistance dogs). These dogs are extremely smart, gentle and easy to train. Collies, Golden Retrievers, Labradors and German Shepherds are the most popular kinds of assistance dogs!
