At the same time they are low in sodium and saturated fat. If your dog needs to slim down some, this could be a great way to give them food so they aren’t hungry but help them with such efforts.
Some vets encourage giving dogs apples as snacks if they have experienced various types of skin allergies. If your dog has been diagnosed with any type of kidney problems, don’t give them apples. This is because of the amount of calcium and phosphorus that they contain. Additional amounts of them can allow the kidney disease to progress.
You also don’t want to give apples to dogs that have arthritis. There is too much Omega 6 fatty acids. It can result in the inflammation getting worse for them. You certainly don’t want the treats you give to your pet to cause them pain.
As long as your dog is free of such health problems then apples are just fine to offer them. Dogs that compete in shows are often given apples because it is a natural way to help them get a glossy coat that shines. It is one of the tricks that gives them the edge over their competition.
If you decide to give your dog apples, do so in moderation. Cut them up into pieces and make sure that they are well washed. Remove all of the seeds and then allow your dog to enjoy them. For dogs that have trouble with bowel movements, apples can help to loosen it up for them. Just be careful that it doesn’t create problems with them being too free with their bowels or you won’t like what you have to clean up!
