Lots
of great information about what human foods are good for dogs.
There is no lack of information out
there about the types of human foods that shouldn’t be given to dogs. Yet there
is less about what should be offered to them. Some tell you to never give a dog
any types of human foods but there are some that can be very beneficial to
them.
For example sausage can offer a dog
more fiber so if one is having trouble with bowel movements that can be useful.
In fact, most types of meat that you would eat in your home are safe for your
dog. This includes beef, chicken, and fish. You do want to make sure all of the
meats are cooked well though to prevent health problems.
When a dog is ill, getting it to eat
foods that won’t upset the stomach is important. You definitely don’t want your
dog to end up dehydrated. Offering them drinks with electrolytes in them such
as sports drinks can be helpful. Chicken or beef broth tastes good to them so
you may be able to get them to consume some of it.
Rice can be a great food for a dog
when they are experiencing health problems. If you think your dog may have an
allergic reaction to some ingredient in their dog food this can be a great
alternative. Rice is also filling so if you are trying to get your dog to cut
down on the amount of food it consumes this can be helpful.
Dogs can have different types of
harmful bacteria in their bodies. A spoonful of plain yogurt or cottage cheese
can be good for them. These types of human foods can naturally help to reduce
those types of bacteria so that they don’t create ongoing health concerns.
Bananas are a great source of calcium and potassium for dogs. Some slices of
this fruit now and then is a good idea.
There are some types of vegetables
that dogs are able to digest easily but others are very difficult for them to
do so. You can offer your dog lettuce, carrots, green beans, and yams in small
quantities. It is a good idea to mash them up though so that your dog doesn’t
just swallow them whole.
In general, dogs don’t need lots of
human foods. They often have too many ingredients in them that simply aren’t
good for them. However, you can give your dog any of these items in moderation
and they will be just fine. Keep in mind that your dog may not react well to
particular human foods even if they are deemed as being good for them.
This is why you only want to
introduce one new type of food at a time. You also want to keep a close eye on
your dog after they have been given human food. If they don’t show any type of
allergic reaction in a 24 hour period then you can assume they are able to
digest it easily.
