People Training for Dogs - Dog Training Video Review

People Training for Dogs” is a unique dog training video by Cesar Millan, otherwise known as the “Dog Whisperer” in the hit TV series with that name. Here he presents a common sense guide to understanding the basics of dog behavior and the key to natural dog training.

Training-Dogs

The Dog Whisperer’s dogs have taught him well. Cesar Millan, not only understands doggy body language, but can speak it as well. He does not need a dog to show us dog language, he does a pretty good job himself.
This particular dog training video turns the concept of dog training on its head. Here it is the people who are trained to understand dogs. While watching the video, I thought he illustrates visually, better than I can with mere printed words, how to relate to a dog for anybody who is thinking of getting a puppy. As the saying goes, “a picture says more than a thousand words.” This video says even more.
Before beginning to learn dog obedience tips, or getting dog training advice, we need to understand the context of our relationship with our dog. This common sense guide to understanding basics of dog behavior does just this.
This training video is invaluable:
  • If you are thinking of getting a puppy or even an older dog.
  • You want to start training your dog.
  • You have a difficult behavior problem with your dog.
I found Cesar Millan’s presentation of dog characteristics entertaining, easy to watch and easy to absorb his advice. The only time I needed to rewind to check that he really said what I thought I heard was when he said, “Dogs don’t have personalities.” And yes, he said that. Yet he understands that dogs are different. I think the message he was trying to get across was, “Dogs are not furry four-footed humans, but are dogs.”

Review of People Training for Dogs” Reviews

Looking on the Internet I found some negative reviews of this unique dog training DVD. Comparing the reviews I found in my search, I found basically two groups. The majority were positive. The minority negative reviews can be further divided into two groups. The one is comprised of negative people. There are some people who will put anything down and are just plain negative. The other group did not understand fundamental and central concepts Cesar Millan builds on, and do not try to understand them either. Again that is an attitude problem.

For example, some had a problem with Cesar repeating the phrase  calm and assertive,” and using the concept of projecting one’s energy. These people want Cesar to explain how to be “calm and assertive.” If anyone needs that explained, then they are not ready to own a dog and should try therapy to learn mindfulness and metallization, because this is not about human-dog relationships, this is about something missing in that person’s human-human socialization.

The idea about projecting your energy is just something to accept. It works that way, whether we understand it or not. I am a retired scientist and I accept there are phenomena we still do not understand. The fact is that when you have a close relationship with your dog, s/he senses your emotional state. I don’t how they do it, but they do. Some people are handicapped by the need to understand everything before they can accept it as reality.

I personally find it no problem accepting the concept of “projecting energy” since I experience it daily with my dogs.

I strongly recommend looking at this video, People Training for Dogs before choosing a new dog, or if you already have a dog, this lays the foundation to natural dog training in an entertaining yet informative manner.
