Los Angeles Dog Day
Care Centers Offer Pampering
Dog day care is nothing new in Los Angeles, a city known for its pet-loving
population. What is new is the wide
range of amenities available to make your pet’s stay at a day care or dog
boarding kennel a genuine treat.
Day care in general alleviates separation anxiety and gives
your dog more exercise and socialization, but nothing compares to being at home
– at least, until now. Today’s Los
Angeles dog care centers provide so much love and pampering that your best
friend may start to look forward to his stay at day care a bit too much! After all, where else can your dog find
playmates, treats and luxury treatment like aromatherapy shampoos and furniture
that’s never off-limits?
Dog Day Care for your
Furry “Children”
Los Angeles
dog boarding kennel owners realized early on that most people today consider
their dog a member of the family – almost like children. So that dog owners could feel comfortable
leaving their pet in a dog boarding center or day care the facilities began to
look more like children’s day care centers and less like a sterile kennel. The response was immediate – pet owners loved
them as much as their pets did.
One of the most popular trends is allowing dogs to spend the
day together in large play groups rather than keeping each animal in an
individual cage or kennel run. This is
especially popular for day care, but is also common at dog boarding kennels
(although most animals do sleep at night in individual kennels). The socialization and opportunity to play
with other dogs serves a couple of purposes.
First, it gives each dog more exercise and mental stimulation than they
would get being left at home alone.
Second, it can be very helpful to pet owners to pick up a pet at the end
of a long day at work knowing that their dog has already had plenty of exercise
and fresh air.
Boarding vs. Day Care
Although you can find quite a few places that offer both dog
day care and dog boarding, in most cases dog care facilities specialize in
either one or the other. The primary
reason is simple logistics. Many dog day
care centers focus on bringing groups of animals together for most of the day
to play and interact. Many will offer
two rooms – one for larger dogs and another for small and toy dogs – that are
extremely large. This makes it easy to
watch and work with several pets at a time and gives the dogs lots of social
time.
A dog boarding kennel, on the other hand, may have less room
for getting large groups together but will have more space dedicated to the
individual sleeping areas for each dog so that each animal feels safe and
secure at night and while being fed.
These facilities also generally have more outdoor area dedicated to
either small groups going out at different times or individual kennel runs for
each dog.
You will find some places that offer both; if you look at
these, be sure to ask how many people are on staff during the day, how many are
on staff at night and whether the animals from day care and those who are boarding
long term get to play together.
From there, it’s a matter of understanding which kind of dog
day care of dog boarding is best for your Los
Angeles sweetie.
