Training your dog or puppy can be
time consuming and some would say boring, but we believe with these 12 basic
tips you and your dog can have fun whilst learning, you and your dog should
have fun. These tips take time and love to achieve but are very effective.
1. We believe before you start any
training that you should understand what you want your dog to do. We mean
teaching your dog verbally and with silent commands for example hand signals.
2. Always practice because practice
makes perfect and trust us practicing all the time even when the dog has
learned the training gets a better bond between you and your dog.
3. If you teach your dog a new trick
or command you must keep training this over and over again till they get it
right and when they do get it right keep training so the dog does not forget.
4. Make sure your voice can be
heard, short strong commands, for example tell your dog to SIT clearly and
sharply and as your dogs bottom is about to hit the floor say the command SIT again.
If your dog does so then give the dog a treat and praise.
5. Punishing the dog is not really
needed meaning you do not need to hit the dog hard, just as again a sharp short
loud command of NO or STOP.
6. What ever you do, do not reward
bad behaviors or commands to your dog that has not worked. If you tell your dog
something and he does not do has you say then no treat or praising. Never.
7. All dogs want to have fun and if
you give them treats and praises every time you ask them to do something they
will be sure to do as they are told in time, at the end of the day they want to
please you because you have what they want – TREATS.
8. Dogs are very clever they know
what is right or wrong; they just like to test you if you do not train them in
right or wrongs.
9. The best way I have taught dogs
to sit is to firmly say SIT and holding my arm out with my palm facing upwards
and then bringing my palm towards my face (keep your arm out stretched and bend
your elbow bringing palm towards you) or another good way that does work is say
the command SIT and whilst saying this put your hand underneath the dogs chin
and lift their head up to the sky, trust me after a while they will sit because
no one likes their head to be lifted to far.
10. Some dogs learn quicker than
others, so have patience and just enjoy the training with your dog. I have
always said that if you make your dog happy and the dog loves to be with you
then the dog will be happy to listen to you because they love your company. So
make training fun.
11. Keep practicing and in that we
do not mean like 12 hours a day, just an hour a day is suffice, train your dog
indoors and outdoors so they get to know all environments.
